Chulsum, Anne Ralitia. 2020. ENGLISH TEACHER’S PERCEPTION ON THE APPLICATION OF SCIENTIFIC APPROACH TO OPTIMIZE STUDENTS ACTIVENESS AT ENGLISH CLASS. A Graduating Paper, English Education Department, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, State Institute for Islamic Studies (IAIN) Salatiga.Counselor: Nur Muthmainnah, M.Pd The objectives of the study are: (1) to know the teacher's perception of the application of the scientific approach to activate students in the English class; (2) to know the problems faced by the teacher in implementing the scientific approach to activate students in the English class. It was qualitative Research. The subject of this research was the English teacher of SMA Muh Plus Salatiga. The researcher used the interview and documentation as a way to collect the data. Based on the findings of research, it is found that English teacher has good perception toward the implementation of scientific approach that teacher should be well prepared in planning the lesson plan, material, media, and so on to foster lerner’s motivation. On the other hand, the teacher also faces a problem in implementing the scientific approach that she is lack of knowledge about applying the scientific approach. In fact, scientific approach has changed students’ activeness in learning by giving some activities. Key Words: teacher’s perception, scientific approach, students’ activeness
