Abstract

Islami, Hayati El. 2020. An Error Analysis of Students’ Mastery in Simple Present Tense (A Case Study at the Eighth Grade of MTs Negeri 2 Temanggung) in the Academic Year of 2020/2021. A Graduating Paper. English Education Department. Teacher Training and Education Faculty. State Institute for Islamic Studies Salatiga. Counselor: Dr. H. Sa’adi, M.Ag. The objectives of this research are to know types of error, sources of error and how the English teachers overcome the errors made by the students of eighth grade in the mastery of simple present tense in MTs Negeri 2 Temanggung. The writer used the descriptive qualitative research design. It was conducted at the eighth grade students of MTs Negeri 2 Temanggung in the academic year 2020/2021. The data was collected by using observation, interview, test, and document analysis. The writer found that the eighth grade students of MTs Negeri 2 Temanggung still made some errors in the mastery of simple present tense. The total number of errors were 745 (59,60%). The writer found that a misformation error was the dominant type of error. There were 332 items of errors (26,56%) from the total errors. While, the dominant error of misformation error was misformation of auxiliary (7,92%). It indicated that the students still had difficulties in these areas.
