Abstract

ABSTRACT This study examines the religious extracurricular programs as one means of improving the quality of Islamic education and the attainment of the objectives of Islamic education. Religious extracurricular activities have a positive effect on student academic performance and can support the learning process. The existence of religious extracurricular program deemed necessary to support the achievement of learning objectives of Islamic education. The general objective of this study was to describe the religious extracurricular activities, Finding quality improvement efforts of Islamic education through religious extracurricular activities and determine the factors that influence the quality improvement efforts of Islamic education through extracurricular activities in Islamic Elementary School in Salatiga. The researchers chose Islamic Elementary School arround Salatiga, because besides having the religious extracurricular program, These schools also implement Islamic values in their school environment. To obtain the research results, the writer used descriptive method with qualitative approaches and techniques of observation, interviews and documentation. The research data was obtained from the School principal, vice principal of student affairs, Islamic education teachers, as well as extracurricular coaches in Islamic Elementary School in Salatiga. The astudy shows that the learning of Islamic Education implementation generally went smoothly and conducive, and used varied learning methods. While the implementation of religious extracurricular program in Islamic Elementary School in Salatiga is different between one school to another, and also the management. In addition, every extracurricular coaches lead students to know the five aspects of the Islamic education curriculum that was not only in cognitive aspect, but also to the affective and psychomotor. To achieve this goal, Islamic Elementary School in Salatiga optimize factors that support and inhibite factors that attempt to obstruct the goal. *Keywords: religious extracurricular, quality of Islamic education
