The aims of the study was to investigate the readiness of male and female students at the sixth semester of English Education Department IAIN Salatiga on answering Essay test as well as to find out the differences of male and female students readiness at the sixth semester of English Education Department IAIN Salatiga on answering Essay test.The subjects were male and female students in 6th semester at English Education Department in IAIN Salatiga. Questionnaire, interview, and documentation were used to collect the data. The data was analysed and interpreted through qualitative procedure. The findings indicated that Male respondents were ready in physical condition, mental condition, and emotional condition. But, they were less in the needs aspect and knowledge aspect.Most of female respondents were ready in all aspect of readiness; there are physical condition, mental condition, emotional condition, Needs aspect and Knowledge aspect.Meanwhile, most of female respondents were ready in all aspect of readiness; there are physical condition, mental condition, emotional condition, Needs aspect and Knowledge aspect. Moreover, the researcher found that the differences between male and female readiness’ lies in the aspects of the readiness, female tend to be more diligent, the researcher know this from the answer in the questionnaire and interview section, female has a more complex and more preparation before they face an essay test. It also on how female answer the questions in interview, female explain in more detail what their answer mean.
