Abstract

This research discusses the analysis of Slang Languages of comments on Eric Nam’s Facebook Page. There are two problem statements in this research. The first problem is what are the meaning and function of slang languages found in the comments on Eric Nam’s Facebook page. The second problem is what are types of slang language showed in the comments on Eric Nam’s Facebook page. A descriptive qualitative method is used in this research. The object of this research is the comments on Eric Nam’s Facebook page that contain Slang Language. To answer the problem statements in this research, the researcher uses two kinds of slang dictionaries to found the meaning of the slang languages, and then analyzed the functions and classified the types of the slang languages using the theory of Allan and Burridge (2006). The results of this research showed from 100 slang languages, the researcher found the meaning of some slang languages have varieties. The researcher found six functions of slang language based on Allan and Burridge theory. They are, 14 slang languages which the function to address, 4 slang languages which the function to humiliate, 55 slang languages which the function to initiate relax conversation, 5 slang languages which the function to reveal anger, 3 slang languages with the function to show intimacy, and 19 slang languages which the functions to express impression. The researcher also found five types of slang language according to Allan and Burridge’s theory. They are 18 fresh and creative, 1 flippant, 8 imitative, 23 Acronym, and 50 Clipping.
