Abstract

The research was about English teachers’ assessment format in designing online assessments during distance learning. This research aimed to find out teachers’ assessment formats in designing online assessment during distance learning and their challenges in designing online assessment during distance learning. This research was qualitative research with a descriptive qualitative method. Research data was obtained from interviews and documentation. Interviews were conducted with three English teachers at SMPN 5 Salatiga. Meanwhile, the documentation used for data collection is in the form of student assessment sheets, applications, or soft files that are used as tools in assessing students. The research findings showed that The English teachers at SMPN 5 Salatiga use Google Forms and Google Classroom in designing online assessments during distance learning. All activities related to assessments are carried out online on Google Forms and Google Classroom, starting from creating, implementing, and analyzing the results. The test technique used is a written test in the form of multiple-choice and essay with the number of questions varies depending on the type of assessment. Meanwhile, the challenges faced by English teachers in designing online assessments during distance learning are designing the multiple-choice test, signals, broken laptop and cellphone, unsupportive technology, and lack understanding of information technology.
