Abstract

The researcher is conducted the research to increase the students’ reading comprehension, through discovery leaning. The research has two research questions (1) How is the implementation of discovery learning to improve the students’ reading comprehension of eighth grade of MTs NU Salatiga in the academic year 2016/2017? (2) How is the improvement the use of discovery learning in the students’ reading comprehension of eighth grade of MTs NU Salatiga in the academic year 2016/2017? The research design was classroom action research. It conducted in two cycles. The result of mean pre-test in cycle 1 was 22.88 with the presentation of passing grade 3.03%. The mean of post-test was 37.05, and the presentation of passing grade was 51.52 %. In the cycle 2, the mean of pre-test was 68.26, and the presentation passing grade 36.36%. The total mean of post-test was 79.09 with the presentation was 75.76%. The researcher concludes that the strategy of discovery learning can improve the students’ reading comprehension.
