Abstract

A Descriptive Analysis in the Use of Zoom Application in Teaching English for Specific Purposes (A Case Study at the Sixth Semester Students of English Education Department of IAIN Salatiga in the Academic Year 2020/2021). A Graduating Paper, English Education Department, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, State Institute for Islamic Studies Salatiga. Counselor: Mrs. Sari Famularsih, S. Pd. I., M. A. This research uses qualitative research. The source of data was taken from online learning by zoom application. In collecting the data, the researcher took a sample of a lecturer and several students in the English class for specific purposes. From the data obtained, researchers know how to implement the use of the zoom application in teaching English for certain purposes and find out the problems of students and lecturers as well as how to overcome problems in using the zoom application in teaching English for certain purposes. The purpose of this study is to explain the implementation of using the zoom application in teaching English for certain purposes and to describe the problems faced by students and lecturers as well as how to overcome problems in using the zoom application in teaching English for certain purposes. Qualitative research is descriptive, meaning that the data collected is in the form of words or pictures, not numbers. The object of the qualitative method is content analysis. Based on the data display, the researcher knows about how the lecturers apply English for certain purposes by using the zoom application. First, the implementation is that lecturers need to adapt technology. Second, explanation of lecture rules, explanation of lecture material about English for a particular purpose, explanation of lecture evaluation assessment. Third, the lecturer asks the students to read and understand the material then watch the video of the material and the students conduct group discussions to answer the questions given by the lecturer, after that the students give a short presentation using the zoom application. Based on the data, the lecturer's obstacles are signals and internet connections, and many students close the camera so that communication between lecturers and students does not go well. To overcome this problem, the lecturer tries to get a good signal and relates to the student's attitude. Based on the data display, students' problems are signal stability and data connection. The extravagant internet quota is also an obstacle for some students. There are some students who do not understand the ESP material by using the zoom application, there are some students who leave the zoom application because of a bad signal or because of other things. The students solve their problems to find a place with a good signal and buy more quota to follow the ESP learning process by using the zoom application.
