Abstract

This study aims to find out the efforts made by teachers to improve students abilities in understanding English subjects using homework and types of homework are teachers using to improve students abilities in understanding English This study used qualitative research, with a descriptive method. summary of the methodology. The researcher conducted the qualitative research method because this method focuses on elaborating the information in-depth and exploring the opinions, thoughts, and defined research questions to answer the objective or research. Hence researchers employ the data collection observation, interview and documentation. The researcher collected observation data by taking field notes on the behavior and activities of the people at the research site. Interviews were conducted to obtain accurate responses and information about using the homework assignment method to improve students understanding of English lessons. In this study, the researcher collected various data during the research process, including written and audio data (recorded interview) and visual data such as photos. The author found that the efforts made by the teacher to improve students' understanding of English subjects were by giving homework that was in accordance with the material provided. Assigning homework is not always answering questions, but it can also do a project. The type of homework used by the teacher is writing, but during the COVID-19 pandemic, the teacher used the internet as a medium. The goal of assigning homework is to urge students to study or repeat the subject provided to ascertain whether or not they have comprehended the material that has been offered.
