Abstract

This research is about the learning of students’ vocabulary by using Total Physical Response method at third grade students of SDN Karangjati 04 in the academic year 2021/2022. The objectives of the research are (1) Is Total Physical Response method effective to learn English vocabulary for the third grade student of SD N Karangjati 04. (2) Does Total Physical Response method influence vocabulary to the third grade student of SD N Karangjati 04. The kind of the research is quantitative research and use experimental method. The technique of data collections were pre-test, post-test and documentation. The subject of the research was third class of SDN Karangjati 04, this research used two classes named control class and expeimen class. Control class was 3A students consists of 22 students while the experimen class was 3B students which consists of 22 students. So the total number of the students were 44 students. The result of the research shows that the use of Total Physical Response method was effective to teach part of body for students vocabulary at third grade students of SDN Karangjati 04 in the academic year 2021/2022. It was proven by standard deviation from control class 6,91 meanwhile the standard deviation from experimen class is 9,58 which is higher than the control class which not taught used total physical response. The Total Physical Response also influence students’ vocabulary about part of body it was proven from the t-test results obtained from thitung = 10,832 and ttable = 2,018 because thitung > ttable then, Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. They felt enjoy and TPR can help them memorized vocabulary easily. Keywords : Total Physical Response, Vocabulary, Teaching English to Young Learners
