Abstract

This study is mainly to describe the speech acts or illocutionary acts type by Searle’s classification in utterances used by tourist guides at Borobudur temple. The objective of this study namely: (1) to know the type of speech act used by tourist guides at Borobudur Temple.(2) to describe the illocutionary meaning of each utterances used by tourist guides at Borobudur Temple.(3) to know the most dominant type of speech act and the reason. The researcher uses a descriptive qualitative method to classify and analyze the utterances. The finding of this research is 225 utterances. (1) It consists of all five types of illocutionary acts according to Searle, there are directive, commissive, representative, expressive and declarative. (2) The meaning of each utterance was provided in the chapter IV. And (3) After analyzing the data, the dominant type of illocutionary act used by tourist guide at Borobudur temple is representative, especially informing. It informs tourist guides who utter information about Borobudur to the guest.
