Abstract

The objectives of the study are:(1) to find out the types of morphemes that is used in educational news of The Jakarta Post from April edition. (2) to find out the dominant use of morphemes in The Jakarta Post. The problem of statement: (1) What is the profile of derivational morphemes that is used in educational news of The Jakarta Post from April 2017 edition? (2) What is the dominant use of morphemes in The Jakarta post April 2017 edition? The research design of the study was mix ofdescriptive quantitative qualitativeapproach methodology. The researcher used 8 articles in educational news of The Jakarta Postthen classified and analyzed the data. The result of the analysis shows that: (1) The derivational morphemes, which exist in the educational news of The Jakarta post were prefix, suffix, and con-fix. (2) Suffix was the dominant derivational morphemes used in The Jakarta Post April 2017 edition. Total suffix was 89% from the total number of data. Furthermore, suffix “-ion” was the dominant type with 25.7% than the other suffixes. Total prefix was 6.8%, “re-“ was the dominant type with 42.9%than the other prefixes. Total con-fix was 5.2%, there are only 6 types and all different. From the data, the researcher concluded that suffix was the dominant derivational morpheme used in The Jakarta Post April 2017 edition
