Abstract

Alviani, Risteria Dian. 2018. The Students’ Motivation in English as a Foreign Language Classroom ( a descriptive qualitative study in the econd grade of IAIN Salatiga in the academic year 2018/2019). Graduating Paper. English Education Department of Teacher Training and Education Faculty at the State Institute for Islamic Studies (IAIN) Salatiga. Counsellor: Faizal Risdianto, S.S., M.Hum. The objective of the research is to know students’ motivaiton and to find out the most dominant motives in English as a foreign language. The subject of the research is the second semester of vocabulary class in IAIN Salatiga in the academic year 2018/2019. This research was made to answer the questions as follows: (1) how kinds of motivation do EFL learners in vocabulary class learning? And (2) what are the most dominant motives on the students in English teaching learning process? To answer the problem, the researcher used descriptive qualitative and validated through observation and questionnaire. The total data showed that from 30 students who have instrumental motivation are 13 students and 17 students having integrative motivation. Based on the data above, the researcher found that the students in Vocabulary class of IAIN Salatiga have most dominant motives on integrative motivation. It could be seen from the amount of students who were categorised on integrative motivation was more dominant than instrumental motivation.
