Abstract

The aims of this research are to know the implementation of meaningful learning and rote learning techniques, and then to find out the significant implementation the meaningful learning and rote learning in teaching vocabulary of the Eleventh Grade Stusents of SMA Muhammadiyah (Plus) Salatiga. The Methodology of research was quantitative by using true experimental study. The technique of collecting the data was test and documentation. To apply the technique the researcher used two groups given pre-test and post-test. The experimental class of MIPA was thought by Meaningful learning. The post-test mean score of Meaningful Learning was 73.00; while the post-test mean score of the control (IPS) using Rote Learning was 63.35. These was implementation of the meaningful learning and rote learning techniques in teaching vocabulary of the Eleventh Grade Students of SMA Muhammadiyah (Plus) Salatiga in the Academic Year of 2018/2019. In addition, there was also significant different of meaningful learning and rote learning because t-calculation (3.5) is higher than t-table (2.02). Thus it can be concluded that Meaningful Learning is better than Rote Learning.
