Abstract

The research is aimed to improve students` reading comprehension through STAD (Student Team Achievement Division) of Cooperative Learning. This research was conducted at MTs NU Ungaran in academic year 2017/2018 especially in 8A class. The subject of this research consists of 38 students. The objectives of this research are (1) to describe the implementation of STAD (Student Team Achievement Division) of cooperative learning strategy in improving the students` reading comprehension. (2) to find out whether STAD (Student Team Achievement Division) of cooperative learning strategy is able to improve students` reading comprehension.(3) to find out how far the improvement of the students` comprehension after using STAD (Student Team Achievement Division) of cooperative learning strategy The methodology of the research is Classroom Action Research (CAR). There were two cycles in this research. Each cycle consisted of planning, acting, observing and reflecting. The techniques of collecting data are test , observation, and documentation. The T-calculation result of cycle I was 4,73 and cycle II was 6,23. The students who reach standardize score in cycle I, the percentage of pre-test was 16,67% andpost-test was 41,67. In the cycle II, the percentage for pre-test was 36,11% and post-test wa 86,11%. So, it concluded that there was significant improvement of students` reading comprehension by applying Cooperative Learning Strategy in MTs NU Ungaran in academic year 2017/2018
