Abstract

This article explores the tense expression in Arabic. The descriptive qualitative approach used to explain the tense of Arabic. This article find that First, the term of tense in Arabic is al-zaman; second, It consist of al-zaman al-madhi, al-zaman al hadhir and al mustaqbal. Third, the way of expressing of the Arabic tense system in detail is as follow: (a) the past tense of Arabic, which constitutes a mādhī verb, or a combination of verb and adverb of time and the auxiliary verb kāna, which usually combined with mudhāri’ verb. (b) The present tense expression in Arabic which employing mudhāri’ verb and adverb of time (c) The expression of Arabic future tense constituting mudhārī’ verb prefix “sa_ ” or particle “saufa”and The mādhī (perfect) verb which is used in the context of praying . This article come to conclusion that the expression of tense in Arabic depends on the context rather then the of the verbs.
