Abstract

ABSTRACT Maria Ulfa, 2018. The Use of WebQuest to Improve the Students’ Writing Skills for Tenth Grade Students of SMK Putra Bangsa Salatiga in the Academic Year of 2018/2019. A Graduating Paper, English Education Department, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, State Institute for Islamic Studies (IAIN) Salatiga. Counselor: Dr. Setia Rini, M.Pd. The objectives of the study are: (1) to describe the implementation of using WebQuest to improve students? writing skills. (2) to measure how far is the improvement of teaching writing through WebQuest at the tenth grade students of SMK Putra Bangsa Salatiga in the academic year 2018/2019 The methodology of this research was Classroom Action Research (CAR). The research consisted of two cycles and each cycle consisted of four steps, they were: planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The subject of this research is X class, which consists of 23 students. The technique of collecting data was the observation, test and documentation. The result of this research shows that (1) the implementation of using WebQuest to improve the students? writing skills requires sistematic steps; first, do the preparation, check the computer laboratory, check the Internet connection, make a lesson plan, and design the WebQuest programme. Second, make an interesting project of WebQuest with the interesting resources and the interesting activity of Webquest such as the canva analysis for the illustration of the materials and video youtube to describe the materials. The vocabulary in the WebQuest instruction must be based on student level to help students understand the materials and the use of WebQuest is running well. (2) There was an improvement of writing skills in using WebQuest. The percentage of pos-test in cycle I for the question number 1 is 100%. The percentage achievement of question number 2 is 60, 69% from 23 students, there are 9 students get score under 70 and 14 students have achieved scores 70 or above of the passing grade. The studens?s achievement of cycle II has increased in terms of the percentage of question number 1 in cycle I and II has reached 100% with an average value 85 from cycle I and 86, 08 in cycle II. The percentage of question number 2 is 60, 69 in cycle I to be 100% in cycle II with an average value 71, 30 in cycle I and 82 in cycle II. Keywords: Writing; WebQuest; E-mail Letter
