Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe the application of a scientific approach through discovery learning models in social science subjects in terms of components of input, process and output in MI Reksosari, Suruh District, Semarang Regency. Describes the strengths and weaknesses of the application of the scientific approach through discovery learning models in the learning of social science towards educators and students in MI Reksosari Suruh District, Semarang Regency. The method in this study is qualitative research. Data sources in this study are primary data sources and secondary data sources. Data collection methods by observation, interview and documentation. This research instrument is a researcher as a key instrument using observation guides, interview guidelines and documentation. The data obtained is then analyzed continuously by reducing data, presenting data, drawing conclusions and checking the validity of the data (triangulation). The findings in this study, namely: (1) the scientific approach through discovery learning models have been applied by the social studies teacher in MI Reksosari, Suruh Sub-district, Semarang Regency, based on observations based on the components of input, process and output in the learning process need to do a special evaluation in the aspect of the learning process in the classroom and its output in the skills aspect of students. (2) There are several opportunities from the discovery learning model, including centering on students and teachers playing the same active role in issuing opinions in the room, improving students' reasoning abilities and the ability to think freely, creating a sense of pleasure in students, practical, easy to implement and follow-up. Whereas in terms of challenges from discovery learning models, teachers need a lot of time, and often teachers feel dissatisfied if they do not provide much motivation and guide their students well, not all students are able to make discoveries, do not apply to all topics, thinking skills rational students are still limited and cultural factors or habits that still use old learning patterns. Scientifically this research contributes to the development in the field of education, especially related to social science as a subject in school. In addition, it is also a thought contribution for teachers in applying scientific approaches through discovery learning models in social science subjects and become a means of monitoring and evaluation to be able to help develop the quality of learning in schools.
