Abstract

The objectives of the study are: (1) To find out whether implementation Index Card Match (ICM) Strategy can improve students? reading comprehension of descriptive text for the Tenth grade students of SMK Saraswati Salatiga in the Academic Year of 2018/2019. (2) To find out the result of using Index Card Match (ICM) Strategy to improve students? reading comprehension for the Tenth grade students of SMK Saraswati Salatiga in the Academic Year of 2018/2019. The subjects of the research were 28 students of class X TPMIA. The methodology of this research was Classroom Action Research (CAR) that was conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consisted of one meeting. This research used qualitative data supported with quantitative data. The qualitaive data were collected from teacher and students observation checklist. Meanwhile, the quantitative data were collected score from pre-test I, pre-test II and post test I, post test II. The results of this research show that (1) there was an improvement of reading comprehension of descriptive text through Index Card Match (ICM) strategy. It is shown the result of the cycle I, the mean of post-test is higher than the mean of the pre-test. The mean pre test and post test cycle I are 52.71 to 62.28. the mean pre test and post test cycle II are 79.42 to 90.35. (2) There was a significant improvement students? reading comprehension of descriptive text through Index Card Match (ICM) strategy from the cycle I up to the cycle II. It is shown the result of T-test in cycle I is 8.3 and cycle II is 16.1. Moreover, the t-test in the cycle II is bigger than the t-test in the cycle I. From the result, the researcher concluded that through Index Card Match (ICM) strategy can improve reading comprehension of descriptive text.
