Abstract

The objectives of this research are (1) To find out the implementation of Think Talk Write to improve the students’ writing skills in the descriptive text, (2) To find out how far the improvement of students’ writing skills in descriptive text after being taught by Think Talk Write Strategy. This research is Classroom Action Research (CAR). It was conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consisted of four steps, they were planning, action, observation, and reflection. The researcher took the role as an observer who observed everything that happened in the class while the teacher performed CAR for the students. The number of students in this research were 31 students. The researcher used pre-test, post-test, documentation, and observation checklist to collect the data. The result shows thatthe use of Think Talk Write (TTW) strategy to improve the students’ writing skills in descriptive text for the eighth-grade students of SMP N 10 Salatiga in the academic year 2018/2019is really successful.The students who pass the passing grade improve gradually from the cycle I and the cycle II. The passing grade is 64. The students who get the score higher than the passing grade of cycle 1 are only 0% and 61.30% in the cycle 1. The result of cycle 2, there are 58.07% and 87.10% of students who get the score higher than the passing grade. The improvement of cycle I is 61.30% and in the cycle II is 29.03%. It means that there was an improvement as many as 25.08% from cycle I and cycle II. Based on the result, the researcher recommends using the Think Talk Write Strategy to improve the students’ writing skills in descriptive text.
