Abstract

The Use of Outdoor Activity Strategy to Improve Student’s Speaking Skills in Procedure Text for the Ninth Grade Students of SMP N 6 Salatiga. A Graduating Paper.English EducationDepartment.Teacher Training and Education Faculty.StateInstitute of Islamic Studies Salatiga.Counselor: Noor Malihah, Ph.D. Key Words: Outdoor Activity, Procedure text, Speaking. The problem face by students in the 9th gradestudents of SMPN 6 Salatiga while learning speaking is that they felt bored with the way the teacher used the strategy in the learning process. The aim of this research is to solve the problem that is to improve the students’ speaking skills by implements outdoor activity strategy through procedure text.The objectives of study are: 1) To describe the implementation of using outdoor activity strategy to improve students speaking skill through procedure text in the ninth grade students of SMP N 6 Salatigain the academic year of 2018/2019.2) Tofind outthe results of the use of outdoor activity strategy to improve students speaking skills in ninth grade students of SMP N 6 Salatigain the academic year of 2018/2019. The subject of the research is the 9th gradestudents of SMPN 6 Salatiga. This is classroom action research with 2 cycles. Each cycle consisted of four steps, they were; plan, action, observation, and reflection. data collected were qualitative but also supported by quantitative data. The qualitative data were gained through observation and documentation. The data were in the form field notes, observation checklist and recordings. Meanwhile, the quantitative data was collected from the test.The results show that the score of pre-test and post-test improve when outdoor activity strategy was used. In the first cycle the researcher gotthe t-test is 9.80 and the T-table with N-1 is 2.048. The significant level is 5%. The value of the T-test is bigger than the value of the T-table and the second cycle find that T-test is 16.20, and the T-table with N-1 is 2.048. The significant level is 5%. The value of T-test is bigger than the value of the T-table. Therefore, it can be concluded that the use of Outdoor Activity Strategy can improve the students’ speaking skills.
