Abstract

The objectives of the study are: (1) To examine the students? ability to pronounce fricative English sounds of the isolated utterances at Pondok Pesantren Annur Tuntang. (2) To examine the students? ability to pronounce fricative English sounds of the non-isolated utterances at Pondok Pesantren Annur Tuntang. The number of subjects of the research were 15 Santri of Pondok Pesantren ANNUR Tuntang. The methodology of this research was descriptive qualitative. Data collected were qualitative. The qualitative data were taken through observation and documentation. The data were in the form field notes, observation, recording and photographs.The result showed that the students have difficulties in pronouncing fricative English sounds. All of them made a mistakes in pronouncing /v/ as /f/, and some of them made a mistakes in pronouncing /?/ as /t/. Based on the results, the writer recommend that the tutor more pay attention in teaching-learning process related to English sound, especially in fricative English sounds.
