Abstract

Galuh Raka Siwi. 2019. A Comparative Study Between Students’ Comprehension on Listening Classes Using Video and Song for Second Grade Students’ of SMP Muhammadiyah Suruh in the Academic Year 2019/2020. A Graduating Paper. English Education Department. Teacher Training and Education Faculty. State Institute for Islamic Studies Salatiga. Counselor: Sari Famularsih, S.Pd.I., M.A. The objectives of the study are (1) to get the data about students’ listening comprehension by using video (2) to get the data about students’ listening comprehension by using song (3) To get the data about comparison between students’ listening comprehension by using video and song for second grade students’ of SMP Muhammadiyah Suruh in the academic year 2019/2020. The methodology of research was quantitative research especially comparative study. The techniques of collecting data was written test to find out the students’ mastery on listening comprehension. The findings of this research are (1) How is the students’ mastering in listening comprehension by using video?. The mean of using video class’s pre-test is 55.00 while the mean of post-test is 85.79. The difference between pre- and post-test mean is 30.79. (2) How is the students’s mastering in listening comprehension by using song?. The mean of using video class’s pre-test is 56.30 while the mean of post-test is 57.26. The difference between pre- and post-test mean is 0.96. (3) Is there any positive significant comparison between the student mastering in listening comprehension by using video and song? The writer finds there is a significant differences between the students’ mastery listening comprehension toward using video and song. Based on the result of the data analysis, it shows that the value of to (tobservation) was -14.162 and the value of tt (ttable) from the df (53) on degree of significance of 0.5 % was 0.68. It means that the value of to is higher than the value of tt. The answer of statistical hypothesis is “there is a significant differences between the students mastery on listening comprehension toward using video and song”. So, alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected Key Words: Video, Song, Teaching Listening Compehension.
