Abstract

ABSTRACT Ramayanti. 2019. Improving Students’ Vocabulary Mastery Through Word Family Games and Picture (A Classroom Action Research of the Eighth Grade at SMPN 7 Salatiga in the Academic Year of 2019/2020). Keywords: Vocabulary Mastery, Word Family Games and Picture, Classroom Action Research The research is about improving students’ vocabulary mastery through word family games and picture of the eighth-grade students at SMPN 7 Salatiga in the academic year of 2019/2020. The objectives of this research are (1) To find out the implementation of word family games and picture in improving students’ vocabulary mastery for the eight-grade at SMPN 7 Salatiga in the academic year of 2019/2020. (2) To identify how far the improvement of the students’ vocabulary mastery after the use of word family games and picture for the eight-grade of SMPN 7 Salatiga in the academic year 2019/2020. The method of the research was Classroom Action Research (CAR). There were two cycles; each cycle consisted of four steps, they were planning, action, observation, and reflection. The technique of collecting data are observation checklist, test, and documentation. The number of students in this research was 29 students. The result of the research shows that the implementation of word family games and picture to improve students’ vocabulary mastery of the eighth-grade students at SMPN 7 Salatiga in the academic year of 2019/2020 was successful. The students who passed the passing grade improved gradually from cycle 1 and cycle II. The pre-test 1 score is 63.03 and the percentage of minimum passing grade is 17.24%. Cycle 1 shows that the post-test score is 69.89 and the percentage of the minimum passing grade is 44.82%. Meanwhile, cycle II shows that pre-test is 77.10 and the percentage of minimum passing grade is 65.51% and the post-test score is 87.06 with the percentage of minimum passing grade is 96.55%. The result of t-calculation in cycle 1 6.660 and in cycle II 8.814 is higher than t-table 2.048, it means that using word family games and picture can improve the students’ vocabulary mastery.
