Abstract

ABSTRACT Fathurrohman, Moh Adib. 2019. AN ANALYSIS OF INTERFERENCE FROM FIRST LANGUAGE TO SECOND LANGUAGE IN PRONOUNCING FRICATIVE CONSONANTS BY PATTANI STUDENTS (THAI STUDENTS)”. A Graduating Paper. English Education Department. Teacher Training and Education Faculty. State Institute for Islamic Studies (IAIN) Salatiga. Counselor: Faizal Risdianto, S.S, M.Hum. This research focuses on target language by Pattani students in pronouncing fricative and the influence of interference. This research is conducted to answer the following research questions: (1) What is Pattani students’ mistakes in pronouncing fricative consonants?, (2) What is the kind of Phonic Interference faced by Pattani students in pronouncing fricative consonant?. In this research, the methodology used was qualitative. The respondents were 7 students of Pattani. In collecting the data used observation, interview, test and documentation. To look for deeper information the research used pronunciation checker. In pronouncing checker, the research was helped by native from USA. The students read some words which had been prepared. The result of this research showed that (1) there are some mistakes in pronouncing fricative consonants, (2) there are two kinds of phonic interference faced by Pattani students in pronouncing fricative consonants.
