Abstract

ABSTRACT Arroyani, Nurhamidah Sab’atun. 2019. “The Use of Make a Match Method to Improve Student’s Reading Comprehension of Descriptive Text for the Tenth Grade Students of SMA N 1 Suruh”. A Graduating Paper Final Graduating Paper of English and Education Department State Institute for Islamic Studies (IAIN) Salatiga. Counselor : Dr. Mashlihatul umami MA. Keyword: Make a Match Learning Model, Reading Comprehension, Descriptive Text. The objectives of the study were: (1) To find out the implementation of Make a Match Learning Model to improve students’ reading comprehension of descriptive text for the tenth grade students of SMA N 1 Suruh in the academic year 2018/2019.(2) To find out whether the use of Make a Match Learning Model to improve students’ reading comprehension of descriptive text for the tenth grade of SMA N 1 Suruh in the academic year 2018/2019 or not.(3)To identify how far the improvement of the students’ reading comprehension of descriptive text after the use of Make a Match Learning Model for the tenth grade students of SMA N 1 Suruh in the academic year 2018/2019.The number of subjects of the research were 25 students of SMA N 1 Suruh. The methodology of this research was Classroom Action Research. It was conducted in two cycles. Each cycles contained four steps. They were planning, action, observation, and reflection. The researcher took the role as an observer who observed everything that happened in the class while the teacher performed classroom action research for the students. The data collected through observation, pre-test, post-test, and documentation. The result showed that the students’ reading comprehension improve significantly. The T-test of cycle I was 6.43, and cycle II was 7.94, it mean that higher than T-table was 2.06. The improvement of the cycle I was 8% and in the cycle II was 24%. The passing grade was 75 and the target of passing grade was 85%. The students passed the passing grade. The target of cycle II was achieved. The data showed that the result of the T-test in the first cycle and the second cycle was higher than T-table. Based on the result, the researcher recommended using Make a Match Learning Model in teaching reading comprehension of descriptive text.
