Abstract

ABSTRACT Insiyah, Jauharin, 2019. The use of Contextual Teaching and Learning to Improve Students’ Writing Mastery on Short Functional Text ( A Classroom Action Research of the Eighth Grade Students of SMP Negri 2 Banyubiru in the Academic Year of 2019/2020). A Graduating Paper, English Education Department, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, State Institute for Islamic Studies ( IAIN) Salatiga. Counselor: Ruwandi, S.Pd, M.A The objectives of the study are. 1. To find out wheter the implementation of CTL (Contextual Teaching and Learning) to improves students’ writing mastery on short functional text of the eight grade students of SMP N 2 Banyubiru in the academic year of 2019/2020. 2. To find out the improvement writing mastery on short functional text of the eighth grade students’ of SMP N 2 Banyubiru in the academic year of 2019/2020 by using CTL method. The subjects of the study were 32 of students’ of 8B class. The methodology of this researcher was Classroom Action Research ( CAR) that was conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consisted of one meeting. Based on the findings of the research (1) The implementation of CTL to improve student’ writing skill was good. In the process,the students paid attention and completed the task. The teacher also gave material well. (2) Then,there was improvement of students writing skill used CTL method. It was show in the result of the research. The mean of pre-test cycle I was (58.43) and the mean of post-test in cycle I was (66.25). Than, the mean of pre-test and post-test in cycle II was (77.5) to (86.56). The mean of post-test in cycle I is higher than mean of pre-test in cycle I (66.25>58.43). The result shown that the students’ writing mastery is significantly. The T-test of cycle I is 9.3 and cycle II is 12.2, its means that higher than T-Table 2.059. The improvement of cycle I is 21.875% and in the cycle II is 25%. The passing grade was 70 and the target of passing grade was 85%. The students’ passed the passing grade. The target of cycle II was achieve. The data showed that the result of the T-test in the first cycle and the second cycle is the higher than T-table. Based on the result, the researcher recommends using contextual teaching and learning can be used to improve writing mastery on short functional text.
