Abstract

ABSTRACT Lestari, Puji Tri. 2019. A Correlative Study between Students’ Vocabulary Mastery toward Students’ Reading Comprehension of Eleventh Grade of SMA N 1 Bringin in the academic year of 2019/2020”. A Graduating Paper, English Education Department, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, State Institute for Islamic Studies (IAIN) Salatiga. Counselor: Dr. Maslihatul Umami, S.Pd.I., M.A. The problem of this study are: (1) to find out the profile students? vocabulary mastery at SMA N 1 Bringin. (2) to find out how is the profile students? reading comprehension at the SMA N 1 Bringin. (3) to find out is there any correlation between students?vocabulary mastery and student?s reading comprehension at SMA N 1 Bringin The methodology of this study was quantitative research. The sample of this study was 65 students which were taken cluster random sampling from two classes. To conduct this study, Correlative study was used. The data were analyzed using, (1) Mean formula, and (2) Pearson Product Moment coefficient. The results of the data analysis, showed that the mean score of the eleventh year students in doing vocabulary test was 50.83, and the mean score of reading comprehension test was 52.52, it means that the students' vocabulary mastery was fair and the students' competency in reading comprehension was fair. Based on the finding, it was found that the correlation coefficient obtained is 0.43 is higher than the table value or the critical value (0.20). It shows that there is a moderate correlation between vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension. Key Words: Correlation, Vocabulary, Reading Comprehension.
