Abstract

Simple past tense is one of the grammar topics taught to Vocational School students. They may have problem in studying simple past tense since English is not their mother tongue and it has different rules from Indonesian grammar. Therefore, in teaching simple past tense, a teacher has to be creative. The research aims to determine if the use of English Tense android application was effective and different in teaching simple past tense to the members of English Friendship Club. This research has used through quasi-experimental study using nonequivalent control group design. The researcher used two strategies in teaching-learning process. She used English Tense android application in class 3.3 as the experimental class and 3.2 as conventional strategies in controlled class. In completing this research, the researcher used pre-test and post-test. The number of students in this research was 14 students in control class and 15 students in experiment class. The result showed that t-test (t0) > t-table (tt) (3,380 > 2,025). It means that H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted. So the researcher concluded that using English Tense android application is effective to improve students’ grammar on simple past tense.
