Abstract

In this thesis, writer used a Contrastive Analysis Approach, because contrastiveanalysis could be applied to predict student's error learning foreign language or thesecond language, Contrastive analysis can give consistent and integral contribution and asrestrain tool for subject and teaching of the second language efficiently, This material canbe composed with the difficult ties level on each one. Contrastive analysis can givecontribution to subtract interference process the first to the second languageAfter investigating the English and Indonesian adverb of manner in some books,the writer find out six finding as follows: 1) Fourth forms used in English adverb ofmanner and six forms used in Indonesian adverb of manner; 2) Three positions andfunctions of the similarities between English and Indonesian adverb of manner; 3) fivekinds of form from the Differences between English and Indonesian adverb of mannerFinally the writer some conclusions as follows: 1) Based on the forms, writer findout five forms used in English and Indonesian adverb of manner; they are Adverb ofmanner formed by adding ly- in adjective and intransitive verb, In a comparative andsuperlative adverb of manner by putting more and most before positive form, In irregularadverb of manner by change on the whole, Much used in mid position on negativesentence, In passive voice sentences adverb ly- goes with past participle either before orafter. In Indonesian adverb of manner form, they are: Any two possibilities adverb ofmanner by adjective they are, repeatedly manner and putting preposition before adjective,If adverb of manner formed by nominee, all of the preposition can Send in sentence,Adverb of manner formed by joining se- and -nya with certain word, Adverb of mannerformed by affix with certain word be repeatedly can followed by -an, Adverb of mannerformed by particles se- and the word demi, beside this adverb of manner se- followed byadjective, and the word mungkin.2) The writer finds out three position; they arc: initial position, mid- position, the endposition. And three Functions the modifier of a verb, the modifier of an adjective andadverb, the modifier of an entire sentence. The differences between both languages are onthe form of adverb of manner.
