Abstract

The aims of doing this research are to find out the data of students'vocabulary mastery, the data of students' intention in paraphrasing references andthe correlation between students' vocabulary mastery and their intention inparaphrasing references. The techniques of collecting the data applied by thewriter are documentation, questionnaire and interview. The data which have beencollected are analyzed by using some books for the theoretical data and usingproduct moment for the quantitative data. From the calculation of the productmoment correlation, the result of the correlation between students' vocabularymastery and their intention in paraphrasing references is 0.45. It means that theinfluence of vocabulary mastery toward students' intention in paraphrasingreferences at the sixth semester of English Department in STAIN Salatiga in theacademic year of 2010- 2011 can be categorized in a sufficient level. lt meansthat the more vocabulary mastered, the easier students paraphrase sentences, andthe more they want to do paraphrasing. So, the students need to enhance theirvocabulary mastery to improve their ability and intention in paraphrasingreferences.
