Abstract

The purpose of this research is to find out the slang words used in transgendercommunity in Salatiga, the meaning, and the functions of slang words in thatcommunity. In this research, the writer uses the descriptive qualitative method.The data are from natural communication taking among transgenders. The sourceof data is in the fonn of oral data. The location to take the data was in YuyunSalon and the town square of Salatiga, Pancasila from April 25th until May 27th2012. The writer conducted observation; she came to place of transgendercommunity in Salatiga and records conversation among the group member. Thisresearch uses "SPEAKING" theory by Dell Hymes to analise the data. Theresearcher found the results of study which include the form, grammar, themeaning of slang words used by transgender community in Salatiga and thefunctions of slang according to the theory of components of speech "SPEAKING"by Hymes.
