Abstract

This research is about the analysis of politeness in "Karate Kid"movie.More specifically, this research discussed about obedience conversational maximsthat were found in the conversations occurred in "Karate Kid"movie. Thisresearch, applied descriptive qualitative method. Focusing on the problemstatements, there are two cases in this study. They what are the types intrinsicelements use in the "Karate Kid"movie and what is the politeness maximconveyed in the dialogue "Karate Kid"movie. In analyzing the conversationalmaxims, the writer used the theory of politeness by Geoffrey Leech (1983). In thistheory, the politeness is divided into six parts: the tact maxim, the approbationmaxim, the generosity maxim, the modesty maxim, the agreement maxim and thesympathy maxim. The overall findings showed that there were six maxims obeyedin whole of conversations in "Karate Kid"movie. Then the writer also found thatthe way the maxims are conveyed through character and characterization from theactors and actress in the movie.
