Abstract

This study was intended to describe the kinds of grammatical errors on theuse of relative clause in students writing performance of the second gradestudents of SMKN 3 Salatiga. This study was also aimedto give somecontributions concerning the dominant factors that influence the grammaticalerrors on the use of relative clause in students? writing performance. This study isqualitative research. The writer had chosen the second grade students ofAutomotive Engineering of SMKN 3 Salatiga in the academic year of 2012/2013and the subjects were 24 students. The data were analyzed by using error analysismethod. The error types were classified based on three types of errors. The factorsthat influenced the errors were found out from the result of the interview. Theresult of this study showed that there were kinds of error based on three types oferrors such as wrong option, insertion, and omission. According to the result ofthe study. many errors in students'writing performance were due to severalfactors. Meanwhile, the dominant factor was the students'motivation was low.From the result above, the writer concluded that the students were still making alot of grammatical errors that were mainly influenced by the students'motivationwas low.
