Abstract

ABSTRACT Widiningsih, Anggit. 2019. The use of Board Game to Improve students Speaking Skills ( A Classroom Action Research for the eighth Student of MTs Yajri Payaman). A Graduating Paper, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, English Education Department, State Institute for Islamic Studies Salatiga. Counselor: Mrs. Dr. Maslihatul Umami, S.Pd.I., M.A. Keyword: Board Game, Speaking skills. The objectives of the research are: (1) To find out the implementation of Board Game to improve students speaking skill of the eighth grade students of MTs Yajri Payaman in the academic year 2019/2020. (2) to find out whether the use of Board Game to improve the students' speaking skill of the eighth grade students of MTs Yajri Payaman in the academic year 2019/2020. (3) To know the extent of the students improvement in speaking skills after the use of Board Game for the eighth grade students of MTs Yajri Payaman.the subject of the research consists of 32 students of the eighth students at MTs Yajri Payaman Magelang. The research methodology is Classroom Action Research (CAR). There were two cycles and every cycle includes planning, acting, observing and reflecting. The implementation of Board Game was successful. It was analyzed by using students observation sheet and average score of the students from each cycle. The result of the research shows that the mean of pre-test of cycle 1 was 55.3 and post-test of cycle 1 was 63.3. Meanwhile, the mean of pre-test of cycle 2 was 67.3 and post-test of cycle 2 was 75.5. The percentage of minimum passing grade of cycle 1 was 34.4% and 46.9%. In cycle 2, the percentage of minimum passing grade was 62.5% and 87.5%. The improvement in cycle 1 was 12.5% and cycle 2 was 25%. The result of t-test in cycle 1 (8.6) and 2 (9.4) were higher than t-table (2.744). It means that there was an improvement of students speaking skill after using board game.
