Abstract

Yulianti. 2019. The Correlation Between the Students’ Mastery of Action Verb and Students’ Writing Ability in Recount Text a Study at the Ninth Grade Students of MTs Darul Ulum in Academic Year 2019/2020. This study aims to answer the following question: (1) to what extent are the Ninth Grade Students of MTs Darul Ulum mastery of action verb? (2) to what extent are the Ninth Grade Students of MTs Darul Ulum in writing ability recount text? (3) is there any correlation between the students’ mastery of action verb and students’ writing ability in recount text of the study of the ninth grade students of MTs Darul Ulum in academic year 2019/2020 The methodology of this study was quantitative research. The sample of this study was 27 students’ which were taken from 25% of total population. The writer collected and analyzed data statistically from the students’ score of variable to find out the correlation between students’ mastery of action verb and students’ writing ability in recount text of the study of the ninth grade students of MTs Darul Ulum in academic year 2019/2020. Based on the result of the analyses in the test I that 13 students (48.1%) got excellent score, 8 students (29.6%) got good level and 6 students (22.2%) got fair score. Based on the result of the test II that 21 students (77.7%) got the good score, and 6 students (22.2%) got fair score. There is significant correlation between students’ mastery of action verb and students’ mastery of writing ability in recount text. This result is obtained from the computation between two variables; students’ mastery of action verb and students writing ability in recount text, whereas the result of index correlation is 0.578. The critical value of the Pearson with the level significance 5% is 0.381. It means the score of index correlation is higher than value of table (0.578.0.381). Therefore, this result shows that there is significant positive correlation between two variables. Keywords: Action verb, Recount text
