Abstract

ABSTRACT Dewanti, Safrida. 2020, “A Correlative Study on Reading Intensity toward Writing Skill of Eleventh-Grade Students of SMK Negeri 1 Tuntang. A Thesis. Salatiga: English Education Department of Teacher Training and Education Faculty State Institute for Islamic Studies (IAIN) Salatiga. Counselor: Dr. Ruwandi, S.Pd, M.A. Keywords: Correlative Study, reading intensity, writing skill The purposes of this research where: 1) to find out the profile of students’ reading intensity, 2) to find out the profile of students’ writing skill, 3) to find out the significant correlation on reading intensity and writing skill of the eleventh-grade students of SMK Negeri 1 Tuntang in the academic year 2019/2020. This is a quantitative research that investigates the correlation between reading intensity symbolized by X (independent variable) and writing skill symbolized by Y (dependent variable). The research data of reading intensity was collected through quesionare while the writing skill data was collected by the teachers’ document (ex post facto variable). The collected data were analyzed by using SPSS 20.0 version. The result of the analysis showed that 1) the score of the reading intensity of the respondents showed a good result because the average of their score for reading interest was 109.36 from the scale 0-160, 2) 43.59% of students are very high qualification in reading intensity, 3) 10.26% for high qualification, and the rest 7.60% are intensity enough in reading, 3) the result of the writing score that the highest score is 90 and the lowest score was 50 from the total scale 0-100, 4) 15.38% of the students categorized as excellent in writing skill and the rest two categorized as 82.05% good and 2.56% fair in writing skill, 5) r-calculation is 0.850 while the r-table is 0.3978. based on the data analysis, it could be concluded that there was a significant correlation between reading intensity and writing skill.
