Abstract

The objectives of the study are (1) to find the lecturers strategies in teaching reading comprehension of the third semester,(2) to find the lecturers reasons of using strategies in teaching reading comprehension. The subject of this research is English lecturers of the third semester at IAIN Salatiga . The methodology of the research was descriptive qualitative research. The technique of collecting data were observation checklist, interview, and documentation. The instruments were used to collect the data of lecturers‘ strategies and the reasons of using the strategies. The researcher analyzed the data by using descriptive qualitative research. The results of this research were; the first, there five strategies that used by lecturer in teaching reading comprehension of the third semester at IAIN Salatiga. They were memorizing, question and answer, silent reading, discussion, an reading aloud. The second, the lecturer reasons using strategies were effective in teaching reading comprehension because help the students to comprehennd the text. Those strategies helped the lecturer to made students more active, so the students can exchange their opinion with others. Keywords: Lecturer’s strategies, Teaching Reading, Reading Cmprehension
