Abstract

Asy-Syifa Arin Nur Astuti. 2020. The Use of Mind Mapping as Media to Improve Seventh Grade Students’ Ability in Writing Descriptive Text at MTs N Salatiga in the Academic Year 2019/2020. A Graduating paper, English Education Department, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, State Institute for Islamic Studies Salatiga. Counselor: Norwanto, M.Hum., Ph.D. The objectives of the study are: (1) To know the implementation of using mind mapping as media to improve students’ ability in writing descriptive text for the seventh grade students of MTs Negeri Salatiga.(2) To find out significant improvement of using mind mapping to improve students’ ability in writing descriptive text for the seventh grade students of MTs Negeri Salatiga. The subject of the research consists of 31 students of the seventh grade at MTs Negeri Salatiga. This research methodology is Classroom Action Research (CAR). There are two cycles and every cycle incudes planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The data were analyzed qualitative and quantitative. The implementation of using Mind Mapping was successful. The result of the research shows that the mean of pre-test cycle I is 55.8 and post-test cycle I is 67.8. Meanwhile, the mean of pre-test cycle II is 67.4 and post-test cycle II is 79.4. The percentage of minimum passing grade of cycle I is 16.1% for the pre-test and 51.6% for the post-test. In cycle II, the percentage of minimum passing grade is 22.8% for the pre-test and 87.1% for the post-test. The improvement in cycle I is 35.5% and cycle II is 61.3%. The result of T-test in cycle I (4.9) and cycle II (7.5) are higher than T-table (2.042). It could concluded that the use of Mind Mapping could improving student’ ability in writing descriptive text.
