Abstract

ABSTRACT Budi Suryono, 2020. The Effectiveness of Using Student Team Achievement Division Technique in Enhancing Students’ Reading Comprehension of the Tenth Grade at SMA N 1 Suruh in the Academic Year of 2019/2020 A Graduating Paper, English Education Department, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, State Institute for Islamic Studies (IAIN) Salatiga. Counsellor: Dr. Setia Rini, M.Pd. The objectives of the study were: To find out students’ reading comprehension before and after being taught using STAD and To know whether there is any significant improvement of students’ reading comprehension recount text after taught by using STAD of tenth grade students at SMA N 1 Suruh in the academic year 2019/2020 The methodology of research was quantitative research especially a quasiexperimental research. The subject of the research were two class groups in the tenth grade of SMA N 1 Suruh, The sampling technique is choosen by using purposive sampling. Two classes as experimental class and control class, in which each class consisting of 32 students as the sample.The technique of collecting data were pre-test and post-test to find out the students’ reading comprehension, observation, and documentation. The researcher used SPSS 16.00 for analysing the test. The result of the research showed that (1) The result from calculation showed that the mean of pre-test for experimental class was 58.59, Meanwhile, the calculation showed for control class. The mean of pre-test was 58.28. (2) The students’ reading comprehension after being taught using STAD also analyzed by SPSS Version 16.00. The mean of post-test was 80.94. the different between pretest and post-test mean was 22.34 and the mean score of control class was 77.81 (3) the result of hypothesis test by Mann-Whitney, p-value (Asymp. 2 tailed) = 0.012, p<?(0.05). Those the hypothesis was accpeted. Moreover, the result of effect size formulation in this study was 1.10. It can be conclude that there was a sigificant effectiveness STAD System on students’ reading comprehension at the eleventh grade students of SMA N 1 Suruh in the academic year of 2019/2020.
