Abstract

The Effectiveness of Rory’s Story Cubes Online Game to Improve Students’ Writing Skill in Recount Text (Pre-Experimental study at the English Club of SMK Garuda Nusantara Demak in the Academic Year 2019/2020). This research focuses on the effectiveness of Rory’s Story Cubes online game to teach writing skill in recount text for English Club of SMK Garuda Nusantara Demak. The objectives of the research are: (1) To know the difference of students’ writing skill in recount text at the English Club of SMK Garuda Nusantara Demak in the academic year 2019/2020 before and after they were taught using Rory’s story cubes online game. (2) To find out the effectiveness of Rory’s story cubes online game to improve writing skill in recount text at the English Club of SMK Garuda Nusantara Demak in the academic year 2019/2020. This research was pre-experimental research. The data was analyzed using paired sample t-test. The subject of this research was the students of English Club of SMK Garuda Nusantara Demak. It involved 10 students. The data were collected through test and documentation. There were two kinds of tests used to collect the data, they were pre-test and post-test. Based on the research findings, the result shows that the mean score before and after treatment was improved from 72.3 became 85.9. Rory’s Story Cubes online game is effective to improve students’ writing skill in recount text. It is proven with the mean score of the post-test. The t-test value is higher than t-table (5.540 > 2.262). The researcher concludes that using Rory’s Story Cubes online game could improve students’ writing skill in recount text and could be one of a good technique in teaching writing a text especially recount text.
