Abstract

Widiastuti, Herlina.2020. “An Error Analysis on The Use of Simple Past Tense in Writing Narrative Text”. A Graduating Paper. English Education Department of Teacher Training and Education Faculty State Institute for Islamic Studies (IAIN) Salatiga. Couselor: Hanung Triyoko, S.S., M.Hum., M.Ed. This study is about an analysis of using simple past tense in writing narrative text made by eleventh grades students of SMK Muhammadiyah 2 Ngawi. The result of this research showed that there are four types of errors that made by students. There are: error of omission, error of addition, error of misformation, and error of misordering. From the data analysis, the researcher found that the dominant error is error of misformation with 40% or 14 errors and the lowest error is error of misordering with 8,57% or 3 errors. Key words: Error, Writing, Simple Past Tense, Narrative Text.
