Abstract

The objectives of the research were (1) to describe the use of idol poster to improve students’ writing skill in organizing descriptive text and (2) to find out how far the implementation of idol poster improves students’ writing skill in constructing descriptive using idol poster text for tenth year students of MA Darussalam Wonosegoro in academic year of 2018/ 2019. The methodology of the research was Classroom Action Research (CAR). The research consisted of two cycles and each cycle consisted of four steps. They were planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The researcher acted as an observer, while the performer was the English teacher. The subject of the research was tenth social class, which consists of 25 students. The researcher used observation checklist, test, and documentation to collect the data. The result of the research shows that (1) implementing idol poster could be applied by following some steps. They were preparing, implementing, and evaluating step. (2) There was an improvement of students’ writing skill in organizing descriptive text by using idol poster. It can be seen from the result of the cycle I and cycle II. The mean of post-test of cycle I (71.8) and the cycle II (79.76) were higher than the mean of pre-test of cycle I (55.2) and cycle II (65.32). In addition, the percentages of students score showed improvement. In pre-test of cycle I (0%) and II (36%) of students passed the passing grade, while in post-test of cycle I (16%) and cycle II (80%) of students passed the passing grade. The T-test of cycle I (13.517) and cycle II (14.311) were also higher than the T-table (2.069) with significant level was 2.5%. Thus, it can be said that using idol poster is effective in improving students’ writing skill in organizing descriptive text for the tenth-year students of MA Darussalam Wonosegoro
