Abstract

Wahyuningsih. 2014. Students’ Mastery on Reported Speech and Their Reading Comprehension in Narrative Text (A Correlational Study of the Fourth Semester Students of English Department of STAIN Salatiga in the Academic Year of 2013/2014). Counselor: Rr. Dewi Wahyu Mustikasari, M. Pd. The purposes of this research are to find out the data of students‟ mastery on reported speech, data of students‟ reading comprehension in narrative text and correlation between students‟ mastery on reported speech and their reading comprehension in narrative text. This is a quantitative research. The methods are correlative. There data collection were documentation and test in this research. After the data were collected, it was analyzed by some books and documents for theoretical data. In addition, SPSS 16.0 windows program was used to calculation the quantitative data. The findings showed that the students‟ mastery on reported speech was good on 36.6%, students reading comprehension in narrative text was good on 50%, and correlative result was 0.604 from SPSS 16.0 windows program. It meant that there was significant correlation between students‟ mastery on reported speech and their reading comprehension in narrative text of fourth semester students of English Department of STAIN Salatiga in the academic year of 2013/2014. It was moderate relationship because it was in the coefficient correlation (r) 0.40 to 0.60. Reported speech influenced reading comprehension in narrative text and it was positive influence.
