Abstract

This research aims to find out the implementation and to know the result of used Two Stay Two Stray strategy improved the students’ ability in speaking skill in the tenth grade students of SMK Negeri 1 Salatiga in the academic year of 2018/2019. The participants of this research are 28 students. The methodology of this research was classroom action research. The research consisted of two cycles and each cycle consisted of four steps, they were; planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The research consisted of two cycles and each cycle of three parts, such as; pre-test, treatment, and post-test. The data collected were qualitative but also supported by quantitative data. The qualitative data were gained through observation, documentation and short videos. Meanwhile, the quantitative data was collected from the test. The researcher used SPSS 16.00 for analyzing the test. The researcher finds that there is a significant improvement on students’ speaking skills after treatment by using Two Stay Two Stray strategy in cycle I and cycle II. The improvement of using Two Stay Two Stray strategy in improving the students’ ability in speaking skill is significant. It can be seen from the cycle I up to the cycle II. The result of the cycle I, the mean of post-test is higher than the mean of the pre-test. The mean of post-test is 66.14 and pre-test are 60.50. In the cycle II, the mean of post-test is higher than the mean of the pre-test. The mean post-test is 76.28 and pre-test are 66.14. The result of T-test in cycle I is 5.344 and cycle II is 7.392. Moreover, the t-test in the cycle II is bigger than the t-test of the cycle I. From the result, the researcher concluded that using Two Stay Two Stray strategy can improve the tenth-grade students’ ability in speaking skill at SMK Negeri 1 Salatiga.
