Abstract

ABSTRACT Abdillah, Muhamad Nur. 2019.“AN ANALYSIS OF STUDENTS’ ANXIETY IN ENGLISH WRITING”. Graduating Paper. English Education Department, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, State Institute for Islamic Studies of Salatiga. Conselor: Noor Malihah, Ph.D. This research focusses on students’ anxiety faced by seventh semester students of IAIN Salatiga in the academic year of 2018/2019 especially in English writing. The research questions were formulated as follow: what are the types of students’ anxiety in English writing classes in IAIN Salatiga?; and what are the level of students’ anxiety in English writing classes in IAIN Salatiga?. The type of the research is descriptive quantitative, this research is made to analyze the students’ anxiety in writing. The purpose of this research are to explain the levels of students’ anxiety and the types of students’ anxiety in English writing. The technique of collecting data that is applied by the researcher is documentation and questionnaire. The data which have been collected are analyzed by using SLWAI questionnaire who proposed by Cheng. The research found that there are 31 students (77,5%) who have a high level of anxiety, 7 students (17,5%) who have a moderate level of anxiety and 2 students (5%) who have a low level of anxiety. moreover, the researcher also found that there are 22 students (55%) who have a cognitive anxiety, 9 students (22,5%) who have somatic anxiety and 9 students (22,5%) who have avoidance behavior.
