Abstract

In the daily conversation, it is often found some people who orderor command someone do not use the imperative sentence which has function toorder someone. More people are using question, even statement sentences to ordersomeone which grammatically has function to ask and give information tolistener. However, the response that performed by the listener is like gettingcommand with imperative sentence. That is one of the reasons v.hy a person needsto learn Pragmatics. In the pragmatic, Cahyono ( 1995) assumes that the meaningof utterance is assessed according to the meaning intended by speakers and by thecontext. Webster (2004) defines that order is to give authoritative instruction tosomeone to do something or for something to be done. On his book, Pardiyono(2005) explains that each sentence has different function, and it is depend on itstype. For example, the question that is used to ask information is declarative orquestion sentence, and the sentence that is used to order someone is called asimperative or command sentence. Beside that, in the conversation there iscooperative principle proposing by Grice that must be obeyed by the participantsin the conversation, so that the conversation can be done comfortably.
