Abstract

ABSTRACT A DESCRPTIVE ANALYSIS OF ALTRUISM VALUE ON ANNA AND THE KING MOVIE Abdul Latif Aziz, (11310071) Every movie has message conveyed toward the audience. In this research, the writer choose the “Anna and the King” movie. The aims of this research are to find out the literary elements in the movie, to find out the altruism values presented the movie, to find out the way the altruism values are presented. The director conversed it in a unique style, through conversation and the action of the character. This movie has biographical drama genre and film loosely base on 1944 novel “Anna and the King of Siam” (and it’s 1946 film adaption), which give a fictionalised account of the diaries of Anna Leonowens. The movie has some messages to the audience, one of them is about altruism. Altruism is a consept of the theory of selfless concern for the welfare of other. The metodology of this study is qualitative study, it’s means that it doesn’t need statistic approach to explore the material. This research has found three findings. First the literary elements in the movie. Second the some altruism values presented in the movie like care, loyalty, and friendship. Third the way the altruism values are presented in the movie. The data sources are primary data and secondary data. The primary data is script from the movie Anna and the King, the secondary data is taken fromAnna and the King of Siam novel. This thesis is not absolutely perfect. So, the writer completely recieve all criticism. However, the writer expects this thesis is able to contribute to development of literary study, particularly in giving description about the important of education values from literature. The writer hope the result of the research will give addition information, contribution, and stimulates for the students or readers in studying literature.
