Abstract

In this era, teaching and learning processes that should be student-centered however in the reality it is still in teacher-centered. The lack of score in students' process skills is due to the lack of guided inquiry based on teaching materials and the limitation of teacher in developing teaching materials. Teaching materials needed by teachers are teaching materials based on guided inquiry that can improve students' process skills and materials related to the surrounding environment. This study aims to: (1) describe the need of developing teaching materials; (2) recognize the feasibility of the teaching material being developed; and (3) recognize the effectiveness of teaching materials in learning. This study used research and development method with ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation) development procedures. Analysis was carried out to analyze the need of developing teaching materials; Design was a product planning in the form of teaching materials; Development was a progress of teaching materials assessed by material and media expert for improvement; Implementation for teaching materials in learning processes; and Evaluation was a result evaluation that showed thematic teaching materials based on guided inquiry are appropriate to be used. The data analysis technique used paired sample t-test. The results showed: (1) there are no guided inquiry based on thematic teaching materials that can improve students’ process skills score, lack of score in students' process skills aspects; (2) the development of teaching materials is developed through analysis, design, development, application, and evaluation. Analysis; the results of the analysis show that teaching materials needed by teachers are based on guided inquiry, which can improve process skills and materials related to the environment. The initial design is made interesting and accommodates students’ needs. Design development is in accordance with advice and revision from material and media experts. Application; 30 students from class IV B were limited scale tested, 60 students from class IV A and IV C were large - scale tested. Evaluation; several types of instruments were used to assess the feasibility of teaching materials, and the pre-test and post-test questions for data collection of students’ scores; (3) through paired sample t-test for limited-scale test and large-scale test showed a sig value of 0,000 <0.05. Guided inquiry based on thematic teaching materials are effective, interesting and can improve students' process skills.
