Abstract

ABSTRACT Uyun, Yesi. 2019. “The Use of Humorous Spoof Texts to Improve Students’ Reading Comprehension (A Classroom Action Research of the Ninth Year Students of MTs Negeri 7 Boyolali in the Academic Year of 2019/2020)”. Counselor: Dr. Mashlihatul Umami, M.A. Keywords: Reading Comprehension, Short Humorous Text The objectives of the research are: (1) To find out the implementation of humorous spoof texts to improve students’ reading comprehension of the ninth year students of MTs Negeri 7 Boyolali in the Academic Year of 2019/2020. (2) To find out the students’ reading comprehension improvement after the use of humorous spoof texts of the ninth year students of MTs Negeri 7 Boyolali in the Academic Year of 2019/2020. (3) To find out the significant improvement of students’ reading comprehension by the use of humorous spoof texts of the ninth year students of MTs Negeri 7 Boyolali in the Academic Year of 2019/2020. The implementation of humorous spoof texts to improve students’ reading comprehension for the ninth grade students of MTs Negeri 7 Boyolali runs successfully. The subject of the research consists of 28 students of MTs Negeri 7 Boyolali. The methodology of this research was Classroom Action Research (CAR). There were two cycles. Each cycle consist of four steps. They were planning, action, observing, reflecting. The data collected through observation, pre-test, post-test, and documentation. The result of the research shows that the score of pre-test cycle I is 69 and the percentage of minimum passing grade is 21.43%. Cycle I shows that the score of post-test is 76.3 with the percentage of minimum passing grade is 46.40%. Meanwhile, cycle II shows that the pre-test score is 74.2 and the percentage of minimum passing grade is 57.15% and the post-test score is 85.6 with the percentage of minimum passing grade is 92.85%. The result of T-test in cycle I (5.8) and cycle II (11.6) are higher than T-table (2.052).
